Prescriptions

Private prescriptions

Where medication is clinically appropriate, the doctor can issue a private prescription at your appointment. A prescription follows a consultation, either a doctor’s visit or a remote consultation where that is a safe way to assess you.

If you have run out of your regular medication

This is a common reason visitors call. The doctor can review what you take, confirm the dose and, where it is safe to do so, prescribe enough to cover your stay.

To do that the doctor needs evidence of what you are already prescribed. The packaging, a clear photograph of it or a letter from your own doctor is a useful starting point, and the doctor may need further records before continuing a treatment.

Medication prescribed outside the UK

Some prescriptions issued outside the UK may be recognised here, subject to checks by the dispensing pharmacist, and additional restrictions apply to certain categories of medicine. GOV.UK publishes the guidance pharmacists follow for prescriptions issued in the EEA and Switzerland. Where your own prescription cannot be used, a UK assessment is needed before anything can be prescribed.

Prescribing conventions, licensed doses and available brands differ between countries, so the doctor may continue your treatment, offer an equivalent available here, or explain why neither is appropriate. Continuation cannot be guaranteed before the consultation, and we cannot promise that a particular medicine or brand will be available.

How prescribing decisions are made

A prescription is a clinical decision. The doctor needs enough information about your health to prescribe safely: what you take, what you react to, what the problem is now, and whether anything needs examining or testing first. Where that information is not available, or where a remote assessment is not adequate for what is being asked, the doctor will arrange a face-to-face appointment instead.

Controlled medicines

Controlled medicines are treated differently. They are prescribed only in exceptional circumstances and only following an in-person consultation, and no supply can be guaranteed. If a controlled medicine is what you need, please say so when you call.

Dispensing and delivery

Medication prescribed after your consultation is dispensed by Omniya’s own pharmacy and delivered to your hotel. Delivery charges are advised at the time.

Fees

The prescription itself is included in the fee for a home or hotel visit at which it is issued. Where you have not been seen and a remote assessment is suitable for your request, a telephone or video consultation is £200.

Medication and its delivery are charged separately, quoted before you commit and itemised on your invoice. For a clinic appointment, the team confirms the fee when you book. View all fees.
