IV therapy

IV therapy

IV therapy is given at homes and hotels across Zone 1, central London, after a medical assessment and only where it is clinically appropriate.

Medical assessment

Before any infusion, the doctor goes through your history, the medicines you are already taking and the reason for treatment, then considers whether an infusion is the right answer to it. Some conditions and some medicines make one unsuitable, and where that is the case the doctor explains why and what the alternatives are. What is given is a clinical decision, made as part of your care.

Allow a longer appointment

An IV appointment takes longer than a consultation on its own: checks before the infusion, the infusion itself running through, then checks again afterwards. Please allow for that when you arrange one.

During the infusion

A clinician gives the infusion and monitors you while it runs, and tells you what is being given, and why, before it starts.

Afterwards

Checks are repeated before the clinician leaves. If you feel unwell afterwards, contact the team so the doctor can advise. For severe or life-threatening symptoms, follow the NHS guidance on when to call 999.

Risks and alternatives

Having a cannula placed carries some risk. It can cause bruising, particularly where veins are small; it can irritate the vein; and any procedure that breaks the skin carries a risk of infection. The clinician discusses the risks and the alternatives with you before treatment. The NHS Northern Care Alliance publishes patient information on IV cannulas.

Fees

The visit and assessment fee is £450 on weekdays between 08:00 and 20:00, or £550 in the evenings and at weekends. Infusion charges are quoted before you commit and itemised on your invoice. View all fees.
